ASGE Statement on Miami VA Healthcare System

The ASGE has released a statement on the Miami VA Healthcare System:
Our understanding is that, as a result of a VA Patient Safety Alert issued in December 2008, and an Olympus Safety notice in January 2009, the Miami VA identified the error in disinfecting the external section of tubing. According to the Miami VA’s statement, patient notification is a precautionary step only. They do not know of any patient that has contracted a virus as a result of an endoscopic procedure at the Miami VA between May 2004 and March 12, 2009.
